ARCF’s believe that education is the hope that transforms tears into smiles in Haiti

Pathways to education provide hope to Haiti’s children. Despite the principle of free school in the National Constitution, Haitian families are subject to tuition fees since 92% of the schools are private. These expenses represent a huge expense for most Haitian families, leaving most families unable to pay school fees.
The average yearly cost to send a child to school ranges from $1,400.00 USD in the inner-city area and $550.00 USD in the countryside. This includes enrolment fees, tuition, uniforms, books, shoes, and all other supplies. This fee eliminates nearly all children’s attendance, especially in rural Haiti where 70% of the Haitian population lives.
Approximately 50 percent of Haitian children do not attend primary school, while roughly 80 percent fail to reach secondary school. Haiti is the only country in the Americas with an adult literacy rate of less than 50 percent and a youth literacy rate of less than 80 percent.
As a result, an estimated 600,000 children are illiterate. In response to this, since 2008, AT Risk Children Schooling program, partnered with institution/ schools to overcome some of these varied challenges.
